Abstract

All of media are required to present news that has high quality to public regarding to its responsibilities as a information transmitter, educator and social control. Quality of media content is also a key to the success of media as an economic institution.This paper describes about quality of news local television and factors that cause it. Indicators for assessing the quality of news local television, there are four aspects, namely accuracy, balance, objectivity and news values. News value seen by three things: actuality (the novelty value or timeliness of the information), the importance of information displayed and least interesting information reported . To determine quality of news local TV used content analysis method with a mixture of quantitative techniques and qualitative analysis (Mix Method) . The object of this study are Jogja TV and TA TV Surakarta with 63 news samples (25 % of the population), taken by random sampling from regular news program that use Indonesian as its language period July 3 to 9, 2013. Jogja TV is the most senior local television in DIY, then, TA TV is the best local TV version Indonesian Broadcasting Commission of Central Java in 2012, 2013, 2014. Result of the inquiry shows that local TV has not been fully able to present news that has high quality to public. News of local TV programs contain information that is more inaccurate, unbalanced and not actual. Over half of local TV news broadcast is not qualifi ed .News of Jogja TV : 73,68% not actual, 68,42% unbalance, 36,84% inaccurate. TA TV: 63,64% not accurate, 61,36% unbalance, 59,09% not actual. The quality of media content caused by many things for instances time, communal reportating, cloning journalism ,technology, human resources both in level reporters and behind the desk, also welfare of workers. Human resource competence and welfare of workers become major causing of another problem in the fi eld of quality news
