Abstract

Jepara Regency is located in Central Java province, Indonesia. This regency borders the Java Sea, Pati Regency, Kudus Regency, and Demak Regency. Jepara also includes the Karimunjawa Islands. The regency is nicknamed Bumi Kartini because it is the birthplace of R.A. Kartini, and The World Carving Center because of its distinctive wood carving crafts. Jepara has cultural, historical, and natural potential so it needs to strengthen its visual identity to increase its appeal and recognition. The Jepara regency government (Pemkab) appealed to the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) to develop innovation and creativity in their area because it can prevent tourist villages from degradation and bankruptcy. Therefore, the design of a mascot is needed as a symbol of identity that can provide attraction and a positive impression of Jepara regency with the method of designing ideas, observations, briefs, creative briefs, final designs and evaluations. The Jepara regency government has a vision to realize a civilized, characterful, advanced, and competitive Jepara through strengthening human resources, utilizing natural resources, increasing the economy, equitable development, and good governance. Visual identity is needed to build a positive image and attract tourists and investors.
